Mitchell Helm
Position
- Research Scientist I
After 3½ years as a student employee in the Seed Conditioning Laboratory and three months as a temporary employee, Mitchell Helm has officially joined the Seed Science Center staff full-time.
Mitchell graduated from Iowa State University in May 2026 with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and seed science. Much of his professional experience has been gained at the Seed Science Center, where he worked in seed conditioning under Alan Gaul.
“During my time as an undergraduate employee, I became involved in many interesting projects led by highly skilled experts,” Mitchell said. “I jumped at the opportunity to continue working on those projects with those people after I graduated.”
Mitchell grew up in Adel, Iowa, and spent considerable time in Montezuma, where his grandfather, uncle and cousin operate a corn and soybean farm.
Outside of work, Mitchell enjoys running, hiking and kayaking around Ames and throughout Iowa with his girlfriend. He also watches NBA games with his dad and enjoys television shows and video games with friends. Hiking and gaming rank among his favorite pastimes.
Please join us in congratulating Mitchell and welcoming him to his new full-time role!
