Derrick Mayfield

Research Scientist III

Duties: Manage the Seed Health PCR laboratory including in-house SOP and protocol development for all PCR-based tests, hiring staff, and ordering reagents and supplies; Research support for Seed Pathology Laboratory; Alternate support staff for Seed Health Laboratory.

Managed Seed Health PCR laboratory since 2015 including developing in-house protocols for the onboarding of new seed health PCR test targets such as pospiviroids, tobamoviruses including Tomato mild mottle virus and tomato brown rugose fruit virus, Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum, Pseudomonas syringae pv. Atrofaciens, and High Plains wheat mosaic virus.

Instructor for PLP 594L Seed Pathology Lab since 2015; PLP 597 Lab methods for Plant Pathology Research since 2017; and National Seed Health System’s Seed Health Testing Workshop 2022

Awards and certifications related to work: Below are my plant pathology-related research contributions since arriving at the Seed Science Center in 2013.
