Daniela Avalos-Ochoa is the SSC Trait Lab Coordinator, and the only Trait
Specialist a a public lab in the state of Iowa. She is responsible for the
operations of a specialized lab that conducts herbicide bioassay, lateral flow
strip, ELISA, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and other tests to determine
the presence or absence (for “organic” seed lots) of biotech traits of seeds in
samples. These tests determine if these seed lots will be available in the
marketplace. She also works to develop new methods and suggest options for
improving existing testing techniques. Avalos-Ochoa is also an expert in
seed germination testing. She has acquired certifications to test for bioassays and ELISAs and
was part of the TEAM CYtation Award team
