Help Wanted: SSC Seeks Student Archiving Assistant

Location: Seed Science Center, Iowa State University, 2115 Osborn Drive

Duration: Summer and Fall 2024; Spring 2025

Pay: $15/hour

Job Description: The Iowa State University Seed Science Center is seeking dedicated students to assist in archiving the Center’s historical, administrative, and operational documents. The goal is to preserve the Center’s rich history and make these documents accessible for research, instruction, and reference.

The job entails assembling, organizing, cataloging, and preserving paper documents, photographs, maps, films, and computer records related to the history and operations of the Seed Science Center. Selected students will undergo training with the ISU Library’s Special Collections and University Archives on records cataloging and preservation.

Requirements:

  • Attention to detail: Ensure accuracy in data entry and document organization.
  • Data entry experience: Previous experience with data entry tasks.
  • Physical ability: Capable of lifting and moving boxes up to 40 pounds.
  • Excel proficiency: Experience using Excel for data entry and organization.
  • Interest in history and organization: A self-expressed interest in history or organizing things.
  • Tenacity: Ability to stay focused and efficient with repetitive and potentially monotonous tasks.
