AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State University Seed Science Center (SSC) proudly announces that applications are now open for the 2024 David Lambert “Hunger Fighter” scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one deserving sophomore or junior who demonstrates a strong commitment to seed science, global food security, and childhood nutrition.
The “Hunger Fighter” scholarship honors the legacy of David Lambert, who served as a Distinguished Fellow at the ISU SSC. Lambert was a tireless advocate for child nutrition, food safety, biotechnology, and global food security. His contributions to these fields were recognized internationally, and he was deeply passionate about inspiring the next generation to join the fight against world hunger. In addition to his work with the SSC, Lambert fervently supported the World Food Prize, promoting its mission to end hunger worldwide.
"David Lambert's dedication to improving global food security and engaging young people in this vital cause was truly inspirational," says Dr. A. Susana Goggi, Chair of the Selection Committee. "This scholarship is a way to continue his legacy by supporting students who share his passion for making a difference in the world."
The scholarship is awarded annually based on academic excellence, leadership qualities, and interpersonal skills. Students who meet these criteria and have a demonstrated interest in the areas Lambert championed are encouraged to apply.
