The seed and genetics industries are changing and growing rapidly.
If you are a professional working in the seed sector, the Graduate Program in Seed Technology and Business (STB) has been designed specifically with your needs in mind. The STB program offers an interdisciplinary Master of Science degree that emphasizes the development of superior problem-solving and analytic skills by providing you with current seed science and technology instruction along with essential courses in business management in a rigorous, integrated curriculum. The program also offers graduate certificates focusing on seed science and technology and on seed business management.
As a program participant, you will gain fresh perspectives on the ways that seed delivers value to users and to society.
Who Should Apply?
If you want increase your productivity along with your ability to manage and lead others in this growing sector, we encourage you to apply.
You should be working in some aspect of the seed industry, a not-for-profit seed-related organization, or in a seed-related government agency.
You should have an undergraduate degree in agriculture, business, or seed-related area in biology, with a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average or better.
Based on your undergraduate institution, you should be able to pass the TOEFL English proficiency examination with a score of 85 or better (or IELTS score of 6.5).
You should have reliable access to a modern computer and high speed Internet service.
You should also be able to commit to a forty month program that will engage and challenge you.

The program will boost your productivity by providing you with decision making
tools and up-to-date scientific and technical information about seed and the
ways in which it delivers value to users and society.
The STB program, delivered entirely over the Internet, is focused on preparing students for seed-related management roles. The curriculum consists of fifteen courses that are developed and delivered by full-time faculty members from Iowa State University and other U.S. universities. Business courses highlight seed-related issues, while the science and technology courses focus on practical applications.
Courses emphasize interactivity with fellow students and faculty. You will be encouraged to share your work experiences with other members of the group. In addition to assigned coursework, you will complete a three-credit creative component exploring a significant research issue of relevance to you. You will work with an Iowa State University graduate faculty committee to develop and refine your creative component project.
As a participant in this program, you will work together with a group of students for ten semesters (including summers) taking one or two courses per semester to enable you to balance your work with other commitments. Your online courses will typically consist of a combination of pre-recorded lectures, homework, threaded discussions, short papers, and examinations. Most importantly—you will have the freedom to study when and where your schedule permits.
